GeoFly Lab published a new paper in Annals of the American Association of Geographers that uses thermal remote sensing to assess how traffic activity influences urban heat island intensity during the COVID-19 lockdown period.
This paper was led by GeoFly Lab former master's student Mythu Tran (now a Ph.D. student affiliated with SDSU and UCSB).

COVID-related mobility changes created a rare quasi-experimental setting to examine how reduced traffic can affect surface temperature patterns. By pairing satellite-derived thermal observations with transportation indicators, the study provides a data-driven view of how urban heat responds to short-term changes in human activity.
